Kids short stature condition

New Delhi, April 25 : If you notice important lack of growth in your child compared to his/her peers, do not get panic as it is a general symptom for children suffering from short stature condition, reported a doctor at a hospital here who has fully treated a 9-year-old male kid who did not show any sign of growth for the past 3 years.


“Millions of kids go un-diagnosed for short stature each year,” added Vaishakhi Rustagi, consultant, paediatric endocrinology, Max Super Specialty Hospital, Shalimar Bagh.

9-year-old Inderpreet could be one of those.


Pritam Singh was left flummoxed once his 9-year-old boy’s growth became to a standstill.


A school teacher belong to Srinagar, it broke his heart to watch his child’s condition vis-a-vis his school mates who were all managing a general growth development cycle.


Inderpreet stood at 113 cm and weighed 18 kg at the age of 9 years and was suffering from a stunted growth condition.


He had depleted his appetite and felt very thin. Even bare functions like walking had become an arduous work. He was taken over to many doctors for consultation only to be dis-appointed with medicines and tonics that were in-effective.


Lately, in April previous year the family brought the kid to Max Super Specialty Hospital, Shalimar Bagh.


Inderpreet is being fully treated by Rustagi and now lengthens 126 cm in height and weighs 26 Kg, the statement recorded.


The kid who had completely did not show any sign of growth for 3 years has grown 13 cm in just 1 year and gained eight Kgs. He is now able to walk properly, eat properly well and attend school, the statement proved.


Short stature is a grave health problem that needs to be addressed on a priority basis. It may result from skeletal dysplasia, endocrine disorders, might be familial, or may be the result of deficiency disease and chronic illnesses,” Rustagi added.


Short stature patients are generally victims of social stigmas in the course of their life that results in psychological stress, depression, reclusion and other mental health issues.


It is critical to be aware of the key indicators of this issue in order to ensure timely diagnosis.


“The key to confronting the problem of short stature is timing! It is very important to have an per-diagnosis and therapy of short stature,” Rustagi stressed.
