Amarnath Yatra Suspended in Kashmir

Jammu, July 9: Amarnath Yatra was suspended and no pilgrim was on Saturday allowed to maneuver from Jammu city to carry out the Amarnath Yatra following the strain in Kashmir valley.

“No yatri was allowed to maneuver from Bhagawati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu city in the direction of the valley as a result of prevailing stress following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani,” a senior police official advised in Jammu.

“The state of affairs might be reviewed later. Until then the Amarnath Yatra shall stay suspended.”

The annual Amarnath Yatra was continuing usually to date and over 80,000 pilgrims have had ‘darshan’ of the ‘Lingam’ contained in the cave shrine in kashmir Himalayas.

Located at 3,888 metres above the sea level, the cave shrine homes an ice stalagmite construction that wanes and waxes with the phases of the moon.
